What this book is about: Someone is murdering people in alphabetical order by name and location and has dared Poirot to try to catch them!
Why I wanted to read it: I've been meaning to read more Agatha Christie this year so that is one reason. The second reason is that I'm vowing to read more from my own shelves. Thirdly, I am participating in a the 52 Books 52 Weeks Challenge and I'm doing it with a twist by reading in alphabetical order! So, this is the perfect choice isn't it?? Get it, A.B.C. Murders......alphabetical reading challenge???? I'm easily amused!
Source: My personal library, but the book was purchased for a quarter from my library sale cart.
- I loved the story being sort of narrated by Captain Hastings. This made the story fun and engaging for me.
- The book flowed and was a fast read.
- Poirot is so quirky and cool...how could I not like him? More Poirot!!!
- I figured out who the real murderer was about 10 pages before the story ended...made me feel like I was playing the board game Clue (which I loved).
I am now addicted to all things Christie and have even listed all of her Poirot and Marple books on my challenge blog. I'm also inspired to listen to some of these books on audio. Has anyone out there listened to these and if so, any suggestions?

I've always said you can't go wrong with Agatha Christie. It's been a while since I've read one of her books so it's time to go back and try one I haven't read.
ReplyDeleteI have about 8 of them that I picked up from my library during their sales...so I have many to look forward to this year!
DeleteYou know... I can honestly say I have never read her work, not because I don't want too... just cause it just has never happened... weird, right?? lol! I love that you chose this book to start with :):):):):):):):):):):)
ReplyDeleteHey, you are a busy woman...but her books are short and fast to read!
DeleteEveryone who reads her says they can never figure out who did it until right until the end, so I should really stop avoiding her and read some, because I love that!
ReplyDeleteI would love to read what you thought of her writing!
DeleteGlad you're loving the amazing AG! I can't help you with the audio as I've just read her books. Did you ever watch the adaptations on PBS? David Suchet as Poirot is fantastic. You can probably get them from the library.
ReplyDeleteI've watched one so far on PBS but I should watch more that's for sure!! I can get them from the library plus I downloaded PBS app on the iPad and you can watch episodes on that!! Way cool!
DeleteI'm glad you are starting to read more Christie books, Staci. I love them. I've listened to several of them with some of them being narrated by Hugh Fraser (who plays Captain Hastings in some of the filmed versions), some narrated by David Souchet (Poirot) and some by Joan Hickson (one of the actors who played Miss Marple). I know there are others narrated by different people, but I'm not sure I've heard any of them.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the info...I will be jotting those names down and checking the info on the audio boxes for sure!!!!
DeleteYou know, I have never read an Agatha Christie novel. That's going to have to change soon. Do you think this is a good place to start?
ReplyDeleteI actually started with her first one and loved it. I just happened to grab this one from my shelf because it fit in so well with my reading plans. I use Margot's blog as my reference point...here's the link-

I want to read an Agatha Christie this year, too! This one sounds like a good place to start....
ReplyDeleteI thought it was fun!
DeleteI have read one book by her, well at least I did read one, lol. I do like Poirot though
ReplyDeletePoirot is quirky and I like him!
DeleteI really want to read this after reading your review, Staci. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteIt was fun...glad my last name is a T! LOL!!
DeleteYou make me want to start reading Agatha Christie again! I was hooked on her books when I was in high school, but I drifted away from them. I think I still have one I haven't read, so I'll have to dig it out.
ReplyDeleteI wish I hadn't waited so long to start reading them!!
DeleteI've seen several reviews of this book around and am tempted to read it myself. Good luck with your ABC challenge.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kaye!! The ABC challenge is fun!!!
DeleteI love the way you are doing the challenge. Glad you enjoyed this one.
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to work in my other challenge books so that with one book I can fulfill multiple challenges!! It makes for some fun times with lists!!
DeleteI'm so excited when I see someone fall in love with Agatha Christie books. I'm not a Poirot fan but can take him in small doses. I'm excited to see what else of hers you read this year.
ReplyDeleteYes, I am newly blissful over AC...I like Poirot but I've only had to read two books so far with him. Did you have a favorite character?
DeleteOf the reoccuring characters I love Miss Marple. Some of my favorites though are some of her stand alone books.
DeleteThis sounds interesting and fun. Woah, reading in alphabetic order, you are more disciplined than I am.
ReplyDeleteIt's actually a fun challenge and a great way to work in several challenges too!
DeleteEvery time you post a review on one of these books I'm going to want to read the book. I've been wanting to read a Christie book for soooooo long!
ReplyDeleteYou know I love being an enabler!! :D
DeleteThat's what I need to do is read the books on my shelves! I joined one challenge and haven't started it so far!
ReplyDeleteYep, you do!!
DeleteToo funny! After reading and listening to some AC four years ago, I got the bug and created the Anything Agatha Challenge! So, I totally understand your addiction. :) I have this one on my iPod. It'll be waiting for me when the mood strikes.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of reading all of her books and of course, adding in the audio too!
ReplyDeleteI am SOOO excited to hear that you enjoyed this one so much! I'm a huge Agatha Christie fan and have a personal goal to read all of her books myself :) I haven't read this one yet but I think that it is going to have to be the next one! If I can make a recommendation...And Then There Were None is one of my favorites by her!
ReplyDeleteTaking your recommendation to heart, Samantha!! I'll be sure to try to get to that one this year!
DeleteI enjoy her stories occasionally. You've sold me on this one. Adding it to my wishlist.
ReplyDeleteI've enjoyed the two books that I read so far...will try to read at least one per month.
DeleteI'm so glad you liked this one. I like Captain Hastings too. He's so funny as a foil for Poirot. A.B.C. Murders was kind of grim. I hope your next one is a bit lighter. Our library (and NetFlix) has a lot of the dvd sets of the PBS movies. But - be careful. I've watched a few that changed part of AG's story to suit the show. Like changing who the murderer was. Not good.
ReplyDeleteHastings is very cool! It was kind of grim but I didn't mind it all!! I will be watching them on NetFlix and from the library for sure. I'll remember not to put much stock into the movie versions..thanks for the heads up! And for the life of me why would they change who the murderer was???
ReplyDeleteI must remember to go to my library book sale on Thursday to see if I can scrounge up some Christie. I miss reading her books; I often solved the case like you did but that just made me feel smart and that's always a good thing, right?
ReplyDeleteI love it when my library has a sale...I go a bit mad for the moment! Yes, feeling smart is always a good thing!
DeleteI'm listening to my second Poirot on audio right now. Both have been enjoyable. Reading the books in alphabetical order is a fun idea!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to be adding audio into my reading this year big time and these will be perfect to listen to!
