4 of Hearts- A great read, put it on your TBR list.
3 of Hearts- Happy that I read it...a good read.

Agatha Raisin and the Vicious Vet (Agatha Raisin #2)
by M.C. Beaton
Source: Library Sale- 25 cents!
I really love this crotchety middle aged woman named Agatha. She makes me smile and laugh because she just says it like it is. She recently retired from public relations and is finding that she's quite bored. After her first successful attempt at solving a murder she gets a bit of an over-inflated ego and believes she's the only one who can find out the answer as to who wanted the local veterinarian dead. The plus side for her (she has a mad wild crush on James) is that her neighbor, retired military man, James Lacey is also bored and so he accompanies her on sleuthing excursions. This makes for a fun, fast, and satisfying read and is a cozy mystery series I will continue to pick up from time to time!

  1. At under 200 pages it sounds like the perfect book for the time I need a good diversion :) I've seen the series but never took the time to see what it's all about so thanks for review, Staci.

  2. Agatha is a hoot! I think I've read them all but Kissing Christmas Goodbye was really funny. Have a good weekend,Staci, and happy reading!

  3. I have liked this series with varying results (nothing below a 3/5 though); however, this one was my favorite out of the first four. I listened to them all and couldn't find #5 in audio from my library system, so I stopped. I'm going to give another look-see. :)

  4. I've really liked the Agatha Raisin books too. I read this one in October of 2000. I know Agatha is not to everyone's taste, but I find her very funny. I've also listened to many of these books in audio and they were fun that way as well.

  5. Update: I just placed the audiobook of #5 on hold! I haven't listened to one since 2008. It'll be fun to be in Agatha's presence again. Thanks for the reminder.

  6. This does sound like a cozy little mystery! The fact that it is a shorter book is nice too!

  7. This sounds like a lot of fun! I loveeeeeeeeeee it! :):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):)

  8. I never heard of her, but this series sounds very fun.

  9. I've never read any of Christie's work, but want to. Glad to see you enjoyed this one.

  10. This series is new to me. It looks cute. And what a bargain you got at 25 cents!

  11. I am not sure about the book, but I like the kitty :)

One day I am gonna find out if I like cozy mysteries, but until then..well I do not know, lol

  12. Looks like a cozy series I would like. Is Agatha similar to Mrs. Pollifax?

  13. A retired public relations person who now can say whatever she wants sounds like a great character. Too bad James and Agatha are bored with their retirement. They need to start a book blog. (LOL) I'll keep my eyes open for this series.

  14. I love Agatha Raisin and this entire series. She is such a fun character and I really enjoy seeing what kind of trouble that she will get herself into. I just finished Agatha Raisin and the Potted Gardener yesterday and am looking forward to reading more from this series!

  15. I really enjoyed the first Agatha Raisin book and have this one on the shelf... may be a good vacation read (we're heading to Florida in a few days).

  16. Hey for 25 cents who cares if it was a 3/5...right? LOL

  17. I've heard good things about this series but haven't started it or her other one. I keep telling myself, one of these days.

  18. I have yet to try one of these - one of these days...

  19. One winter I read all of the Hamish Macbeth series by this author, I couldn't stop! I will have to try the Agatha Raisin series as well.
