Joker Card - Don't bother (why did I?)
** This book was absolutely charming!! I love books that take place in Italy because this is a country that I want to visit so bad I can taste the wine!!!! I loved how Cat finally decided to live her life for herself for once and took that brave first step by just up and going to Italy without much thought. Once she arrives things don't exactly go the way she was hoping, but the ups and downs helped her grow as a person and a woman! In the end she learns what makes HER happy and realizes that at some point, you need to jump without looking. You're not going to read anything utterly life-changing from this book, but I'm sure that if you enjoy women's fiction then you would like this!

Crossing Washington Square - Joanne Rendell
** I absolutely enjoyed every single page of this "women's literature" novel. I found the two main characters very interesting and each intricate in their own way. I loved the idea of studying Classics and then comparing them to modern "chick lit." I felt like I was in a front row seat listening to the professor debate the merits of "trash literature" and how in the world anyone would think it made for important reading. You also have a delightful mix of men with the irresistible cad and the boyish romantic guy. I think this book would make a fun movie!!!!

Secrets of Eden - Chris Bohjalian
** How to write a review on this one, yet not spoil it for others???? I've decided not to tell you much, except that Bohjalian is at the top of his game with his latest release. I loved the story and once I started reading there was no stopping until the last page.

ReplyDeleteAll three are now on my b.i.o.S list! I won a Kristen Harmel book and the title put me off so I just stuck it on the shelf but hauled it out recently and ended up really liking it! Title- The Art of French Kissing.

I read Crossing Washington Square and while I liked it, I wasn't as enthralled with it as you. I think I had expectations for a different kind of story.

ReplyDeleteFunny... last night I wrote my sunday post on my definitions of 2-5 stars on goodreads. Most of my books get 3 stars, then 4 and last year I only handed out 5 stars to 4 books. They need another category for DNF.
They all look like great books!

For Happy Days people, I went to an autograph signing and got to meet Potsie, Ralph, and Joanie. Do you know that Potsie (Anson Williams) had no recollection of singing that "Pump Your Blood" song? How could he forget that?
You hit the jackpot with all three books this week. I have the first two on my wish list. You have me very intrigued about the third one. Another great six sentences.

ReplyDeleteSo glad you had good reads this week. And thank you for not giving away anything about Secrets of Eden. I avoid most reviews until after I've read the book because I think they tell too much. I have loved those books I've read by Bojhalian so far; Double Bind and Skeletons at the Feast. I am so looking forward to this one. I love short reviews-just tell us how much you liked it and give it rating I say. Good job.
