I have been stalking this Hairy Woodpecker for a few weeks now and every time he shows up I don't have my camera out!! But the other day he was so busy eating that I was able to sneak in the house, turn the camera on inside, and then quietly walk back out front to snap a few photos!! I have two teacher friends who make suet bags with their daughters and then give them away at school. I can't wait to show them what was snacking on the feed bag hanging from my tree!
What a lucky shot!
ReplyDeleteGreat photo! We have woodpeckers visit our garden, but they are so aware of people and movement it's very difficult to get a photo before they fly away.
ReplyDeleteCool! Good for you! Persistence and some stealth ... a perfect combination in this case!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great shot!
ReplyDeleteYour patience paid off - what a beauty!!
ReplyDeleteVery cool....and I love that you were able to capture him.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.
Here's MY SATURDAY SNAPSHOT
Wow, Staci, what a great shot! We're lucky you had your camera ready this time :-)
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful bird!
ReplyDeleteHooray you finally caught the photo! Well-worth the stalking.
ReplyDeleteOhhhhhhhhh he is pretty!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat picture! I have the worst time with not having my camera for great pictures. That's part of the reason why I am making more of an effort this month. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a striking bird! Nice capture!
ReplyDeleteWow. So cool that you managed to get a shot of him.
ReplyDeleteThat is so cool! I could tell it was a woodpecker, but I've never heard of that particular species before.
ReplyDeleteThat is a great shot. I think he's watching you.
ReplyDeleteI like the suet bags, they look so much nicer than the cage type holder I've got right now.
What a gorgeous picture!
ReplyDeleteNice. He looks a little perturbed at the papparazzi (sp?) I'm impressed that you know what kind he is. I always say, "Oh, there's a pretty one."
ReplyDeleteHere's Mine
What a pretty bird!! So cool it liked the snack. Great idea to hang yummies for birds
ReplyDeleteWhat a great shot. I don't think he liked being photographed while eating.... Lol.
ReplyDeleteHere's my Snapshot.
Awesome photo, persistence sure paid off. He's a pretty bird, we don't have woodpeckers in Australia.
ReplyDeleteHe's wonderful. I love his colouring.
ReplyDeleteThat is a great shot. Obviously he liked what he was eating to hang out so long:)
ReplyDeleteGreat shot! What a beautiful bird. I saw a pileated woodpecker the other day and I wish I'd had a camera on me.
ReplyDeleteWow, that is one fantastic shot! Great job sneaking up on the little guy. Happy Mother's day, Staci, hope it awesome!
ReplyDeleteThe moment of surprise and prize of photography-a beautiful photo of a woodpecker.
ReplyDeleteSometimes i got lucky hearing the sound of a woodpecker then to see the bird on the tree working hard. Do you have a lot of cardinals and woodpecker in Upper Michigan?
He's such a gorgeous little fellow! Well done.
ReplyDeleteGreat shot! We can't have suet or feed up this time of year because of the black bears! :<)
ReplyDeleteVery, very sweet. We have a nest on a light above our deck. Birds come every year and bring us babies !!
ReplyDeleteVery cool bird!!!
ReplyDeleteNice shot! I love those woodpeckers, but since our next-door neighbors removed a ton of their trees (their backyard looked like a forest), I haven't seen as many. :( I did see a hummingbird at one of my potted plants on our deck last night, though!!
