The top shelf has 3 stacks which are all library books and review books. The second shelf contains from left to right: ARCs that I need to get to!!!, review books, and the last stack is a combo of library/review books. Below that you can see a glimpse of my scrapbooks. I actually do scrapbook once in a while, not all of my time is spent reading!!
This is an alcove in my scrap/book room that houses two bookshelves. The one on the left is filled with YA books that I want to read or have read. The bookshelf to the right are all the books that I bought over the years and some library sale books that I've added to the collection. What you can't see is the space between these two shelves. I have another stack of books that almost reach the top of the shelves! Then of course you notice all of the books that are stacked on top of the bookshelves!
Now these lovely piles contain books that I've won and most of my library sale finds!!! I just can't stop myself!!!!! I think I'll really know that I have a problem when I can't walk into this space because the books fill up every available nook and cranny!!!
** I want to thank Jill of Rhapsodyinbooks for the comic
that she posted on her blog the other day!! I snipped out the ones that really rang true with me!!
It's hard to keep from buying when so many books are available isn't it? You'll eventually get to all of them and if not, isn't it nice just to look at them and contemplate? It was fun seeing your stacks!
ReplyDeleteBut books are great fun!! No excuses :)
ReplyDeleteI figure you're buying those books because you want to help a great cause - your local library! I think books are a great addiction to have!
ReplyDeleteI think those shelves look like paradise :)
ReplyDeleteI have my book nook in my scrapbook room as well. Some day I will have time to read and craft all day.
I get giddy just looking at all your books. I've got a wish list going after perusing your stacks! LOL
ReplyDeleteThis was a neat post! I'm afraid all the nooks and crannies in my apartment were filled up with books long ago. I've got a storage room filled with boxes of books, too. Still hope to have a place big enough to get them all out on shelves one of these days. I really should stop buying (!!!), but just can't help myself!
ReplyDeletehehehehehehehehehehehe.....i love u....and if i showed u pics of ALL my scrap supplies...u would be shaking your head at me!! lol!!! i could live to be 110 years old and still NEVER make it through all my stash...lol lol lol...and I keep BUYING more!!! ReplyDeleteI have similar book areas at my house, Staci. And then there's my Kindle. It's a habit I can live with :)
ReplyDeleteHey, there's more room on the shelves in that first picture :) Don't despair, you're not alone. Right now I have a very precarious stack downstairs balanced on my childhood rocking chair. Yup, storing books on rocking chairs - now there's a smart plan, NOT!
ReplyDeleteThanks for coming clean with us, but I have a feeling there are more under a bed or in a basement :)
ReplyDeleteYou are perfectly normal, and loved by all of us book lovers :0
Love books!
ReplyDeleteOmg...picked up 18! textbooks today
Yes, you have the right to call yourself an addict. I think you deserve to be able to brag about it. And I agree the library is at fault for putting those sale books right where you are forced to buy them. I think your stacks of books are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your stacks with us! I have a problem with the books for sale at the library too :)
ReplyDeleteBoy can I relate! I just noticed the other day that these two stacks I put on the shelf downstairs look like they're going to topple over. I need to do something about that. It's crazy. I still say we need a support group of some sort. lol.
ReplyDeleteYou're so organized! You know where everything is and which stacks belong to which category of books.
ReplyDeleteWait! Do I see two copies of The Cougar Club? ;-))
I'm a book addict too! It is very hard not to buy books, I agree. I'm a book hoarder, not good! LOL!
ReplyDeleteI love seeing that I am not alone. When I lived with my parents, there was a linen closet outside my room that my parents let me use for items that wouldn't fit in my room. While it originally held games and things, it eventually turned into my "book closet." The shelves were PACKED full of books. I mean, stacks up against the wall. At times, there would be three or four layers DEEP of books and the reached all the way up to the shelf above it.
ReplyDeleteEventually I couldn't fit any more on the shelves, since they were sagging in the middle from the weight. At that time, one of my brothers moved out, so I started using HIS closet to store more books. It was insanely out of control.
Now that I am in the apartment with hubby, I realize how many i do have! It is a serious problem and we have no where to display them all! Right now they are taking up a closet in our spare bedroom.
Matt made me promise not to buy any more, at least until we get a bigger place, and I agreed. I have so many that I haven't read that I can't justify buying more.
Library book sales are my weakness. I'm so lucky my little neighborhood library doesn't have sale area. I would clean them out regularly. You are so lucky to have so much space to put all those book shelves!
ReplyDeleteWhat fun! I love looking at people's shelves! Every summer my goal at the library book sale is to donate more than I buy... once in a while I even manage to do it!
ReplyDeleteI loved that comic, and emailed it to my husband right when I saw it. We actually watched an episode of Hoarders last night and I felt like saying, "See - I'm not that bad!" :) After all, my books are in nice stacks and not impeding the walkway. LOL!
ReplyDeleteAhhhhhhh.... welcome sister! :)
ReplyDeleteLOL
I love what you did with the cartoon! I was just sort of doing the same inventory, making faces at myself as I passed by all the stacks and stacks. And it would be one thing if they were stacks of READ books but to have all those UNread and still be getting more - ugh! :--)
ReplyDeletelol! If you have a problem, we all do. Which is probably the true. Seriously though, can a sane person possibly resist library sales?
ReplyDeleteWell... I started this post before 8am today with only 2 comments. Now it's the end of the day - I can't wait for this project to be done tomorrow. I want my life back :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't bought a book from the library since I was a young girl. I should take a photo of my book shelves. I might do that for Friday's post.
I never feel guilty about buying books from the library. The money goes to a good cause and I often end up donating a ton of books each year. It's a win win situation! That reminds me... I have a library sale to go to!
ReplyDeleteLibrary sales can be evil...but oh, how I love them!

Diary of an Eccentric
Looks very familiar. You know, when we rented this house the major selling point was all of the built in bookcases. Of course, they are overflowing and I now have books under both beds....it is an illness, but I am okay with that:)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you posted this. I've just been dying to see your "shelves". I think everybody with a book blog should add a tab that says "a glimpse of my shelves". Shelves tell a lot about a person. I like how you are organized and your method of reading. I'll bet you are a wonderful librarian :)
ReplyDeleteI can totally relate Staci! I'm a book addict also and my bookshelves are overflowing as well as the piles of books. Thanks for giving us a peak into your book stash. How cool that you have a scrap/book room! You'll have to show us some of your scrapbooking stuff also sometime. I love the comic and am going to check out Jill's site for the whole comic!!
ReplyDeleteI looked at that first book shelf and though "psh--that's not so bad." Then I scrolled down and thought "now that's starting to look like my shelves." Then I saw that stacks and I am not feeling nearly so badly now. Thanks for that!
ReplyDeleteI'd feel right at home in your house, Staci. You should see my TBR room. Books, books everywhere! I'm bad about acquiring books too. I only get books I really want to read, whether it be buying them myself, contests, gifts, or review books. Unfortunately (?), there are just so many I DO want to read!
ReplyDeleteha-ha-ha
ReplyDeletehee-hee-hee
I love it! Look at your books. It's totally awesome and no you can't turn down a book for 50 cents. I'm here for ya baby. I support your book crack habit :)
You are not the only one! Those library sales are killer!
ReplyDeleteYour books feel like home! :) And as a matter of fact, I'm heading to a library book sale this afternoon. I always get a bit antsy on the drive there - a surge of adrenaline or something. Tee hee.
ReplyDeleteI used to paper-scrap, but now I digital-scrap. LOVE IT! However, I haven't touched anything I've worked on for a year! :( Maybe this summer I will get back to it.
