Library Loot- November 11

Hosted by Eva at A Stripped Armchair and Marg at Reading Adventures.
We share what we each picked up at the library during the week.

I broke down and requested a few books this past week!!

Surrender Bay: A Nantucket Love Story by Denise Hunter
** This is Christian fiction and I think I clicked on an advertisement of this book on Goodreads. I went to her website and liked what I read...has anyone read this one???

Rage: A Love Story by Julie Anne Peters
**This is a GLBT YA book about two girls who are in a relationship until it becomes violent. Sounds pretty intense. For some reason I want to blame Michelle of Michelle's Bookshelf for this one!! Did I blame the wrong person????

Family Album by Penelope Lively
** This one was featured on Shelf Awareness and it sounded like a great read (family secrets) so away I went and requested it from my library!!

Creature of the Night by Kate Thompson
** I read about this one in my current School Library Journal...sounds good and creepy. It's about a house where a murder has taken place and Bobby who lives there now is starting to notice strange and eerie events taking place.

44 Scotland Street by Alexander McCall Smith
** I really forgot how I heard about this one (CRS Syndrome) but it does sound interesting. This was published as a serial in The Scotsman newspaper.

  6. These all look great. I just read a review of Lively's book and added it to my list. Have been meaning to read something other than The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency by McCall Smith, too. Enjoy!

  7. You have a couple I'm interested in too: Family Album and 44 Scotland Street. They are just up my alley. I'm going to see if I can put a hold on them.

  10. Great books! I SO want to read Rage, too! I read good things about it, and I am particularly curious about it since it sounds a lot like a wannabe-novel I wrote when I got out of high school! Hehe!

  13. I've never thought to keep track of the number of books I read. Sometimes I love a book and 3 days later I'm done. Other books, while I want to know what happens, it can take me a month to finish. You have an impressive total.

  15. About 44 Scotland Street - I wasn't so wild about this first in the series. In the days I rated books, I gave it a B, and this is what I noted in my journal:
'At first I liked this book so much. Not an A+, but still very good. Then I found myself getting sick of some characters. They got bizarre and boring and their stories didn't really proceed. By the end, I was just slogging along to finish.'
And THEN, I read the second one - Espresso Tales, and I was hooked! I gave it an A+ and wrote:
'This book is one of my reader mysteries. I read the first one, 44 Scotland Street, and thought it was okay but mostly wanted it to be done. For some strange reason, when I saw this offered at Recorded Books, I was excited to read it. And when I listened, I simply adored it. Other than the Portuguese Verbs books, I just love AMS. He is probably my favorite living male fiction writer.'

And since then I've read the next two and loved them as well. Yes, some of the characters are a bit over the top, but I've become so fond of them, eccentricities and all.
