One of our themes this year was trying to buy local and not from big box stores. So after Marc and I got home from school we headed about 11 miles down the road to a family owned Christmas tree farm. We thought it would be quick and easy to find the perfect Christmas tree, but it was not. After about a twenty-minute hunt we found the tree that called out to us. Matt cut it down while Marc looked on admiring his Dad's skills!! Then I made them pose with the tree and the saw which my husband hated with every fiber in his being!! The last photo is of Marc hoisting the tree on his back and taking it to our truck! We enjoyed our time together and will certainly go back next year to get our next tree!!
LOL, love the pics! Fun memories being made.
ReplyDeleteSuch a fun event, as long as it wouldn't have been me doing the work...LOL
ReplyDeleteA nice tradition to share together - Merry Christmas :-)
ReplyDeleteWe used to select our tree from a local farm each year when I was a child. Visiting the farm was the most fun! Thanks for sharing your photos. It looks like you picked a beautiful tree!

I admire your attempt to buy local - we do the same thing. It looks like y'all had fun!
ReplyDeleteAs a kid, we used to cut our Christmas trees all the time. I love the tradition; so much fun. Happy Holidays to you!
ReplyDeleteOh, that story takes me back! In my first marriage, his family had some land in Oregon where we would go to get a tree. There's nothing quite like the adventure of it. Thanks for sharing...and enjoy! And thanks for visiting my blog.
ReplyDeleteThis is a familiar routine for my family... great photos!
ReplyDeleteHehehehehe... but he looks GOOD in the pic!! :) Loveeeeeeeee it!!! Too dry here to have a real one (IMO) --- we just had rain last week, first time in like 3 months ... I would love to have a real one, but it's just too dry here :)
ReplyDeleteLovely family pictures, and you are right that we should all try to by locally.
ReplyDeleteSounds like such a fun tradition to start! We use an artificial tree but I feel we don't get the full experience.
ReplyDeleteHaven't gone looking for a real tree in so many years...What fun!
ReplyDeletelove the idea of getting a local tree, and cutting it down yourself (quick Griswold flashback)... looks like a fabulous time, happy holidays! Book Savvy Babe
ReplyDeleteHey, at least there was no snow on the ground! When we were little, we went out every year for a live tree and each of us kids had to stand by one potential tree before anyone else grabbed it. We could be standing there for 20 minutes in the cold while my parents were looking. Wish I had fonder memories of it so I could take my family out. Now all of the trees around here are sold way before Christmas so if you go in December, there's nothing left to pick from. Looks like you got a good one! Wishing you and your family a very merry Christmas! Will you get to talk to Mitch?
ReplyDeleteLooks like happy hunting :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice family memory!
ReplyDeleteHe was a good sport to pose for the picture! I bet your house smelled wonderful! It is one thing I miss about having a fake tree. Merry Christmas.
ReplyDeleteMine is here.
Fun! We did this with our niece and nephews when they were small to get a tree for their grandmother's house. It made for great memories!
ReplyDeleteI love getting our tree at the Christmas tree farm...but we take from the pre-cut trees until Wiggles is ready to walk into the distance to cut one down.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a perfect day to me. How fun.
ReplyDeleteWe have never done that, have always wanted to. This year we moved into a small apartment in the city. Instead of taking our Christmas ornaments out of storage we decided to go easy on ourselves and just bedecked our indoor bamboo plant. It's about 8 foot tall and with twinkly lights and small ornaments it looks quite lovely. Not very traditional but it's just one year so I'm excusing myself.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog!
I love that you are trying to buy local and stay out of the box stores. That was my goal for Christmas and for many reasons, failed miserably! Hats off to you!
