One of our themes this year was trying to buy local and not from big box stores. So after Marc and I got home from school we headed about 11 miles down the road to a family owned Christmas tree farm. We thought it would be quick and easy to find the perfect Christmas tree, but it was not. After about a twenty-minute hunt we found the tree that called out to us. Matt cut it down while Marc looked on admiring his Dad's skills!! Then I made them pose with the tree and the saw which my husband hated with every fiber in his being!! The last photo is of Marc hoisting the tree on his back and taking it to our truck! We enjoyed our time together and will certainly go back next year to get our next tree!!

  4. We used to select our tree from a local farm each year when I was a child. Visiting the farm was the most fun! Thanks for sharing your photos. It looks like you picked a beautiful tree!

  7. Oh, that story takes me back! In my first marriage, his family had some land in Oregon where we would go to get a tree. There's nothing quite like the adventure of it. Thanks for sharing...and enjoy! And thanks for visiting my blog.

  11. Sounds like such a fun tradition to start! We use an artificial tree but I feel we don't get the full experience.

  14. Hey, at least there was no snow on the ground! When we were little, we went out every year for a live tree and each of us kids had to stand by one potential tree before anyone else grabbed it. We could be standing there for 20 minutes in the cold while my parents were looking. Wish I had fonder memories of it so I could take my family out. Now all of the trees around here are sold way before Christmas so if you go in December, there's nothing left to pick from. Looks like you got a good one! Wishing you and your family a very merry Christmas! Will you get to talk to Mitch?

  19. We have never done that, have always wanted to. This year we moved into a small apartment in the city. Instead of taking our Christmas ornaments out of storage we decided to go easy on ourselves and just bedecked our indoor bamboo plant. It's about 8 foot tall and with twinkly lights and small ornaments it looks quite lovely. Not very traditional but it's just one year so I'm excusing myself.
Thanks for stopping by my blog!

  20. I love that you are trying to buy local and stay out of the box stores. That was my goal for Christmas and for many reasons, failed miserably! Hats off to you!
