Genre: Christian Suspense that was very well done!
This was book was provided for review by WaterBrook Multnomah.
I usually give you some sort of synopsis of the story and then tell you what I thought about the book. Well, I'd like to do things a bit differently today and urge you to watch the trailer for this book. The video does an excellent job of getting you into the mood and may just put you a bit on edge!!!
Are you little bit scared??? I know that I was, yet I also knew that I just had to read this book. Heitzmann is a new to me author so I wasn't sure what to expect going in, but let me tell you that there was not a slow spot in this book. The author weaves a very intricate story between the past and the present, giving you little glimpses into how past actions of so-called upstanding people can damage and reshape innocent lives. The characters are very real and I felt that they came off as very authentic, especially Jonah battling his demons with alcohol. I always enjoy reading stories that are set in rustic towns which have deep connections with the wildlife and the forests that surround them. As I was reading this book it felt like I was peeling an onion with many ,many layers! I found myself stopping at the end of each chapter and thinking to myself....o.k. now what would make this person do that? What clues have I just read that would get me one step closer to the identity of this sadist person? I raced through this book in less than two days because I HAD to know the WHO and the WHY. Please, don't let the genre interfere with you picking this book up or not....if I didn't know going into this book tour that it was a Christian Suspense novel I would never have thought it was so when I was finished. All I know is that this is a solid piece of suspense writing with a very ominous tone that runs just beneath the pages...and keeps you turning the pages until the very end.
Highly recommended!!
Very creepy! Reminds me a little of the episode of Criminal Minds that I watched last night. It was set in Alaska. Putting this on my wishlist. I think I might have read another book by this author, but I'm not sure it was suspense. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThat trailer is totally creepy - glad to see the book lives up to it!
ReplyDeleteIt's funny - I so hate (in a way!) when a trailer or blurb on the back does such a good job that you know you can't possibly approach it in a review! I think we all have had to say at one time or another something to the effect of: this is so good I'm just going to provide THIS for you instead of trying to do my own!
ReplyDeleteWow, that trailer is a bit creepy! I'm finding less interest in thriller type books for some reason. I guess it's the creep factor!
ReplyDeleteThe video was a great introduction to this book. I'm glad I watched it with the sun shining, however. I'll keep that in mind while reading the book.
ReplyDeleteOhhhhhhhhhhhhh this sounds WOW GOOD! :):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):)
ReplyDeleteI agree, this was a page-turner! I did figure out who was doing the "sewing" early but still was interested in the story.
ReplyDeleteI have read a few Christian fiction books without meaning to, and I have enjoyed them. The town in the trailer is so picaresque and you sure do make this sound like a good read.
ReplyDeleteThanks for including the trailer. This one definitely looks and sounds like it will keep me on the edge of my seat!
ReplyDeleteGreat review--I love a good suspenseful read. I can't wait to check this one out.
ReplyDeleteThat trailer was creepy! This book sounds really great. Thanks for the review!
ReplyDeleteThat is very creepy. I think I would like this book!
ReplyDeleteI avoid suspenseful thrillers and very rarely make an exception (if the mood strikes me). :) Glad to know you liked this one though.
ReplyDeleteOooo, sounds good! I've added it to my TBR!
