Calcutta by Duane EvansWho would've thought that I would enjoy a book that takes place in Pakistan, India and Saudi Arabia and that revolves around terrorism? Not me that is for sure, but I've realized that if it is a well-written book about espionage, terrorism, and has some great characters then I just may enjoy myself!! Tarek Durrani is a man that I would like to meet, I found him to be a fantastic and intriguing main character. I'm not familiar with Muslim names so it was slightly hard to keep track of who were the good guys and which ones were the bad guys, but that really is the only negative thing I can say about this book. Duane Evans knows his stuff and I felt like this (terrorism plot) was a scenario that has played itself out in various locations throughout the world. This book not only educates you, but it entertains you along the way.

From Boneville Volume 1 by Jeff SmithThis is such a sweet, funny, charming, and witty graphic novel. I should've read this one a while back because my son Marc loved it. He has good taste as does several blogging buddies I know. If you're sitting on the fence in regards to graphic novels then I would tell you to grab this one. You will find yourself falling in love with Fone Bone, Smiley Bone, and maybe Phoney Bone as you travel along with them on their adventures trying to get back to Boneville. Now I just have to fight with a few middle school boys over number 2.....wonder who will win?

ReplyDeleteNorth from Calcutta sounds really good. I know what you mean about the names though. It's one of the biggest barriers for me with multicultural books.
These both sound good! Honestly, Staci, I think you should make this 6 sentence thing a meme. I look forward to it every Saturday and it is really all you need to know about a book to figure out if you would want to read it or not.

I have to check out North Of Calcutta. The terrorism thing is very much real here. We kind of face it almost everyday, in a manner of speaking.

ReplyDeleteMy bet on who will win in the struggle for book 2 - the kids. I'll bet your too much of a pushover when it comes to getting kids to read. On the other hand, their anticipation may increase the reading pleasure. You are faced with a real dilemma!
