The Chocolate Castle Clue (Chocoholic Mystery #11) by JoAnna Carl
Source: Jessica @ Penguin Group
Genre: Cozy Mystery
Pages: 230
Published: October 4, 2011 NAL

Brief Synopsis: Lee McKinney Woodyard discovers a dusty trophy inside TenHuis Chocolade that belongs to her aunt Nettie and her old high school singing group, the Pier-O-Ettes. It's a trophy that brings back terrible memories of an unsolved murder years ago. Before Lee takes aim at the past, someone is murdered in the here and now. Lee needs to keep her eyes on the prize, hoping the trophy is a clue to finding the killer-before she's a target herself.

My thoughts: I don't know about you, but for me a good cozy is such a great comfort read. This was my first introduction to JoAnna Carl's writing but it certainly will not be my last. I loved the whole idea of running a chocolate shop (I adore chocolate) and the added plus for me was having the story take place in Michigan. The characters weren't over the top and believe it or not Lee actually did stop herself from recklessly going into danger! Gasp! I know....sometimes cozies make us suspend belief but this one didn't have to do that...and I honestly enjoyed the afternoon I spent while immersed in Warner Pier. The added bonus were the side notes between chapters about chocolate shops within the U.S. that JoAnna has visited while writing this series.
My Rating:

A solid read with a fun mystery!

  1. Funny how many of the cozies involve food! :--) Personally I don't think I could run a chocolate shop; I'd eat all the inventory!

  2. This sounds like a cozy I'd like to add to my list! i'm in a cozy mood these days, probably due to the cold rain outdoors this weekend. Happy week of reading.

  3. This sounds like a nice comfort read. I would probably eat chocolate the whole time I was reading it.

  4. I'm a recent convert to cozies and I agree - almost anything goes when it comes to characters and plot. That's one of the attractions for me, haha. Total comfort reads and I really enjoy them. Adding this to my list. Loved your review.

  5. This sounds like a fun read! I love a good cozy mystery especially when I am going through a reading slump. I'm adding this one to my TBR list..thanks!

  6. And I am yet to read a cozy mystery, well one day, one day :)

  7. Every time I read one of the books from this series I wish I could go visit the town and chocolate shop! If only they were real. :-)

  8. aw, I think cozies involve food because obviously food is very comforting! This sounds like a cute one. :)

  9. I worked in a Chinese food place for 2 years and got free food every day. If that is true at the chocolate shop I'd never have any hope of losing the rest of this baby weight!

  10. I do love a good cozy and especially one with food in it. I'd love to have the job of visiting chocolate shops - all for the sake of research. Love your six sentences.

  11. Books set in your backyard are always fun. Plus chocolate...count me in :)
