'1105 Yakima Street (Cedar Cover #11) 'by Debbie Macomber

Dear Reader,

You don't know me yet, but in a few hours that's going to change. I'm inviting you to my town of Cedar Cove because I want you to meet my family, friends and neighbors. Come hear their stories--maybe even their secrets!  Cedar Cove--people love it and sometimes they leave it, but they never forget it!

First thoughts after finishing this book: "Wow, that was like a daytime soap opera!"

I have been reading Debbie Macomber's books, most especially The Blossom Street Series, over the past couple of years but I've never read her Cedar Cove series. I think I made a huge mistake by reading this book out-of-order. I had a hard time getting all of the characters together in my head and the number of people involved in this book was a bit overwhelming. I'm not going to blame Debbie for any of that. I should have done my homework and passed on the NetGalley review copy and started with book one.

Recommend? Overall, it was a fun read but I did feel a bit overwhelmed with all of the different story lines. I found myself wishing several times that I had started at the beginning!

  1. Hmmm...yeah, I think this is a series best read in order. I've read 1-9 and need to catch up with 10-12 now. Lots of characters and each book builds on that. I bet it would be disconcerting to start with #11. It's a good series though and I'm going to be sad to not read it anymore.

  2. I think that would be hard not to start on the first in the series....and too many characters would probably overwhelm me too (shhhhhh... don't tell anyone, but I felt that way about Harry Potter at first! lol!) Have a great Friday! :):):):):):):):):):):)

  3. I love it when books only have a few main characters, because it is so easy to get overwhelmed trying to keep track!

  4. Yes, read the series. Although the last few have been good but not great (imho) I really enjoy the Cedar Cove series. I have this on my Kindle and hope to read it soon. I've heard the Christmas book is the series finale and then Macomber has a new series beginning - can't wait.

  5. I haven't read anything by Macomber in awhile, but I've thoroughly enjoyed the Blossom Street books...and I've read a few from the Cedar Cove series. I think this one is the next one from that series...for me.

    Thanks for sharing.

  6. I've never read any of Debbie Macomber's books before. It's true that some series you can just read out of order - but it's good to know this one should be read in order. Must be like watching an episode of 'Coronation Street' for the first time...

  7. Sometimes lots of storylines work for me, while at other time it just gets too confusing

  8. I can imagine it would be hard to truly enjoy it if you're reading it out of order. My gram loves this author, and I think I bought her some of the books in this series for Christmas last year.

  9. If it reads like a soap opera and has a lot of characters, it's probably not for me.

  10. I usually like starting at the beginning of a series too. That being said, it's also nice when there is enough background information so it can easily be read as a stand-alone book.

  11. I enjoy her stories, but yep, they do need to be read in order.

  12. This is a series I've thought about trying since I find Macomber books comfort reads. Good to know reading out of order is not best.

  13. I read the 1st book in one of these series but then never continued on. Too many books and not enough time (and all that). But I do remember that it was enjoyable so maybe you should go back and start at the beginning. I hate starting in the middle of series :)

  14. Good to know this series needs to be read in order. This does sound like a good series. I enjoy Debbie Macomber for a lighter read.

  16. I use to enjoy this author (especially her Christmas books) but have not read her in years sadly. The covers are always so pretty aren't they?

Hope u r having a great weekend Staci.

  17. Well, since so many of the daytime soap operas are getting cancelled, we may just need to start reading them. But, evidently, in order!

  18. I've only read a couple by Macomber, but know I'm not a fan. I understand the "soap opera" terminology.

  19. I love the Blossom Street books - but only the ones that had the original characters. I have the Cedar Cove books - well most of them. I hope to read them one of these days.

  24. I've only read one or two by Macomber (Thursdays at Eight and one of the Blossom Street books), but I have several of the earlier books in this series waiting to be read. I hope they're not all too soap operish. I'll give them a try, but I may not read all 12.
