rating scale of 1-5 using the cute and original (lol) Playing Cards.
Rating scale will be as follows:
5 of Hearts- You must read this book NOW!!
4 of Hearts- A great read, put it on your TBR list.
3 of Hearts- Happy that I read it...a good read.
2 of Hearts- Just O.K but nothing to write home about.
Joker Card - Don't bother (why did I?)
The Queen of Last Hopes by Susan Higginbotham
Source: Sourcebooks
I knew absolutely nothing about Margaret of Anjou so that was one of the reasons why I wanted to read this book. I didn't love this book, but I didn't hate it either. The writing came across like a textbook to me and I never felt that the characters were really fleshed out and brought to life. I honestly do not care whether I ever read another book about Margaret again...she bored me to tears. I was a bit intrigued by her "maybe" love interests and actually found the male characters more interesting. I would certainly read this author again, as I know of others who have read her works and raved about them, but this story just didn't appeal to me.
My Rating:
Without strong characterization, I tend to dislike the book. It sounds like this was more of a history lesson than a story.
ReplyDeleteToo bad you didn't like it :( But there has be some that feel like that about this book too, that's life.
ReplyDeleteSorry you didn't like the book but it was a fun review to read! :--)
ReplyDeleteOh well, at least you've read her now...
ReplyDeleteSorry a 2 rating book happened, but they do don't they! I have been fortunate that my last two books have been (for me) a 4 and 5!.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the honest review. Now I know to skip it.
ReplyDeleteSome books just don't have the appeal you think it will have from the description. You gave it an honest try.
ReplyDeleteI appreciate your honest review, Staci -- wouldn't it be boring if we all thought the same way? I do have a few of her books on my TBR pile, so it will be interesting to compare notes.
ReplyDeleteOh no! That sucks. I'm surprised too because I read one of her other books and it read like a story. I loved it actually. Better luck next time.
ReplyDelete'Bored to tears' is not somethng you want to see in a book review :)
ReplyDeleteDisappointing, I'm yet to read one of Susan Higginbotham's but have heard good things about Hugh and Bess and The Stolen Crown ... think I might start with one of those :)
ReplyDeleteoh no....
ReplyDeletesounds like one you have to wade through.
ReplyDeleteA good, honest review but still - sorry it was a bust.
