Six Sentence Saturday

Welcome to Six Sentence Saturday.
Where I try to express my thoughts on recent reads using only 6 sentences!!!!.
At the end of each review I will post a
rating scale of 1-5 using the cute and original (lol) Playing Cards.
Rating scale will be as follows:

5 of Hearts- You must read this book NOW!!
4 of Hearts- A great read, put it on your TBR list.
3 of Hearts- Happy that I read it...a good read.

2 of Hearts- Just O.K but nothing to write home about.
Joker Card - Don't bother (why did I?)

The House Next Door- Anne Rivers Siddons
After reading Lesley and Kay's reviews of this one, I just knew that I had to read it. This is unlike any book that I've ever read by Siddons because this one was tense and scary! A few reviews on Goodreads note that this is cheesy, but I honestly didn't think so. It was written in 1978 and so you need to keep that in mind while you're reading it. Siddons gave the house characteristics that made it seem like a breathing entity and she builds up the malevolence coming from the house and draws you deep into the evil. I thought she wrote a heart-pounding horror story that I totally believed in!
My Rating:

Blind Hope by Kim Meeder, Laurie Sacher
This book is basically about how to give up all of your ways and to trust in Jesus. The story is told through recollections from the author and her friend Laurie. Laurie adopted a dog in need and discovered that she was slowly losing her sight and had numerous medical problems. Laurie learns life lessons from her dog Mia. Kim is moved enough to want to share her story with others in the hopes that it will bring someone closer to Jesus. I thought this was a good book and I really did enjoy learning about how Laurie trained Mia as she lost her eyesight. Another thing that I liked was learning about Kim's foundation, Crystal Peaks Youth Ranch. This is an o.k. read that makes you feel good and might have you re-examining a few things in your own life but be forewarned....it is very preachy.
My Rating:
This was book was provided for review by WaterBrook Multnomah.

  1. I am pretty sure I have read Siddon before, but The House Next Door doesn't ring any bells. It does, however, sound like a book I would enjoy as I love tense and scary.

  2. Yours is the second review of Blind Hope that says it's preachy, so I'll probably skip it. I do enjoy Anne Rivers Siddons work, but don't think I've read that book. I'll have to look for it.

  3. Staci, I'm so glad you liked THE HOUSE NEXT DOOR. It is unlike anything else that the author has written. She does women's fiction very well and even some historical. And I love her writing. But, this one....wow. Creepy beyond belief in that it isn't over the top with blood and gushing and stuff. Just really, really disturbing. I think I need a reread. Maybe on the vacation.

  4. That does sound like a totally different kind of a book for Siddons. Hmm--it might just be time for something that really creeps me out!

  5. I put this on my TBR List years ago when Les told me about it. Since then, I have acquired it, so it's on my TBR Shelves now (progress) - I just haven't picked it up yet. I'm thankful for your reminder that it was written in 1978 and to keep that in mind. When it comes time, I'll be sure to do that. :)

  7. Did you know, by the way, that now there are dogs trained to help deaf people too? Dogs are so amazing. But I admit I would prefer just to have the animal part and not the religious or preachy part!
