Fitness Friday Update #2

What I've been doing:

I've decided to go back to basics and do what has worked for me, which is walking!! I'm working hard at doing 2 miles every day but not at a leisurely pace. I feel really good after I'm done and that makes me happy! I don't walk on weekends at the moment, but I do walk Mon-Fri.

Weight Watchers and Me:

I'm loving the point system, it works for me. This past week I went to bed with quite a few points still left for the day, but I attribute that to being a bit under the weather. Now that the temps are warming up here in Michigan I plan on being outside more and hopefully that will take my mind off of food!!! I'm still giving myself 25 points for the day with that extra 5 if I need it. I'm in love with my calculator...when I think I want something, I just plug in the info and when the NUMBER comes back that astounds me I rethink my choice!! I'm amazed at how many points I was eating a day...mindless eating at that too!!! I have my WW scale and that is an amazing tool!! Will be working on inputting my own recipes and figuring out how many points a serving is. The eye-opening part of this scale is to see what a REAL serving size is supposed to look like!!

Starting weight: 171
3/19/10: 168
4/1/10: 166
Goal weight: 140-145

  4. 2 lbs! Good job. I'm still going to my Zumba class twice a week and working on my portion sizes!

  5. Good for you, Staci! I keep meaning to walk every day (or just get out of my house every day, for starters -- this is one of the perils of working from home), but I don't seem to manage it all that often. Now that the weather is getting warmer, though, there's no excuse!

I've never tried WW, but I did the South Beach diet in the fall and it worked quite well, up to a point. I've now stalled on my weight loss.

  6. Good for you! I joined WW in December and so far I have lost 13 pounds. I walk every day as well, usually 2.5 - 3.0 miles. :)

    Happy Easter!

  7. You're doing great Staci! Keep up the good work. I'm always amazed by how much a serving actually is - it's quite the eye opener. I hope you're feeling better!

  8. Wow Staci - those first 5 pounds often seem like the hardest - you are doing an awesome job. I think what you say is key - using a system that works for YOU.

I wonder what number your magic calculator would spit out for that cheeseburger and fries I just savored from Five Guys? My treat for the week - they just opened down the street. Back to salads and grilled chicken next week ;0)

  9. I'm glad your diet's going well overall, Staci. The warm weather definitely makes it easier to eat less, and more healthily too. In the winter I crave chocolate like there's no tomorrow :P

  12. Good for you, Staci. Two miles is a nice walk, isn't it? I used to think it was soooooo long, but I'm doing better with it. I'm starting a yoga class this week with my grown daughter. We'll see how that goes. :-)

  13. I walk a lot too. Well, I'm in walking distance to work, so that's no big deal, but I try to make it a point to walk whenever I can.

You're doing great, Staci! Enjoy the nice weather!

  17. I put a calorie counting app on my Ipod and I also was amazed at how much I was eating. One day, I had over 600 calories on snacks!

  21. Good job, Staci! I've always enjoyed walking, but I'm trying to work in some intervals now so I'm not just doing the same thing every time I hit the trail. I walk at a moderate pace for a minute or so and then kick it up to a very fast walk for 30 seconds. Then back down to a moderate pace. I do this for about 20-30 minutes. I think the key is to get your heart-rate up and not just stroll those miles away. Sounds like you're doing great. 5 lbs. down is great!

  22. WooHoo! Keep it up. My plan is to walk more now that the weather is nicer now too. I'm not a cold weather walker. :)
