Courting Trouble- Deeanne Gist
I'm so blaming Nise (Under the Boardwalk) for this one!
Synopsis: Essie Sprekcelmeyer loves her hats, her snakes and her bicycle--Peg, for short. But the one thing she wants to love, but can't, is a husband. The year of her thirtieth birthday, Essie creates a list of potential husbands to catch...but the catching, and the unintended consequences thereof, might cause her more trouble than it's worth.
A Bride Most Begruding - Deeane Gist
I was going to get A Bride in the Bargain because I love Nise's review of that one, but then I came across A Bride Most Begruding and thought that maybe this was a series. I realize that it doesn't have to be read in order but because I'm a tad "anal" about reading the first book of anything, I grabbed this one instead.
Synopsis: Any ship arriving from England means good news for Virginia colony farmers. The "tobacco brides" would be on board--eligible women seeking a better life in America, bartered for with barrels of tobacco from the fields.
I spent last weekend glued to the Hallmark channel watching each one of these books in the Love Comes Softly series come to life on the screen! I feel in love with the characters and knew that I had to read the books.
Love Comes Softly (Love Comes Softly #1)- Janette Oke
Nineteen-year-old Marty Claridge starts west with her adventurous, boyish husband, Clem, seeking to claim land and hoping for good fortune. But when the venture turns suddenly to tragedy, Marty is left alone with her great loss. And coupled with her grief and heartache is the grim reality that there is no way to return home. Clark Davis and his little girl, Missie, are also in great need. Clark's wife has died, leaving him to care to Missie and the farm at the same time. His offer to Marty comes with good intention, but will courage and faith be enough to bring them to true love?
Love's Enduring Promise (Love Comes Softly #2)
Clark and Marty Davis now preside over a growing family in their little prairie house. But as they reach out to those in their frontier community, they discover that love is not limited by the size of a dwelling.
Britten and Brulightly - Hannah Berry
Blame is going to Margot (Joyfully Retired)....this was her first foray into graphics novels and she truly enjoyed this one. I really like the drawings in this one and the dark feel to it!! Thanks Margot!!!
Number of Books Checked out from the library:20
By the Time You Read This, I'll Be Dead- Julie Anne Peters
Blaming this one on Shawnee (Icedream) for this one!! Plus, I've read other books by this author and loved them.
About this book: National Book Award finalist Julie Anne Peters shines a light on how bullying can push young people to the very edge. Cherries in Winter: My Family's Recipes for Hope in Hard Times - Suzan Colan
Bonnie is being blamed for this one!! I love her reviews and this one was no exception. As soon as I saw the book on the library shelf I knew I had to get it!
Cherries in Winter is an irresistible gem of a book. It makes you want to cook, it makes you want to know your own family’s stories, and, above all, it makes you feel rich no matter what.
I have been watching the Oke movies :D
ReplyDeleteGood loot! I sinned too, but only by 1 book..ok 2 but I wont read that one
My goodness! I am impressed with the number of books you've read so far this year!
ReplyDeleteI am trying to find new things to read - just in the mood for something different. Cherries in Winter sounds like it could be a fun escape.
Thanks for all the reading suggestions :)
Jill
These all look great!
ReplyDeleteI am also intrigued by Britten and Brulightly due to Marg's recommendation.
ReplyDeleteI am very anxious to read your review of Cherries in Winter.
as soon as i read that title of your post....i knew i'd be seeing a lot of books....but 20!?!?!?! LOL!!! Girl...U are outta control!! LOL! :):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):)
ReplyDeleteI like the title of your post! It's a fun way to be out of control, yes? Library books are wonderful and you've picked up some good ones! I like the look of that dark graphic novel. It seems a bit creepy.
ReplyDeleteDo they roll out the red carpet for you at the library? Margot's review of Britten and Brulightly caught my eye too.
ReplyDeleteI just picked up two books yesterday (both audio). I have a stack of about 20 books left from 2009 that I haven't read yet - my strategy.... if there is an audio version available at my library I will listen to it.
ReplyDeleteI'm lucky to find time to read right now but finding time to listen is easy (I work from home, walk 5 miles every day... I get to multitask!).
I picked up Happiness sold seperately and Too Much Happiness.
Have a great weekend!
You are really reading up a storm! Unfortunately it is weeding time, not reading time, for me, so unless I can figure out how to download books onto my ipod, I don't have much time these days!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy Deeanne's books!
ReplyDeleteI watched the Love movies too, but have not read the books.
By THe Time You Read This I'll Be Dead looks like one I'll have to read.
I was so proud of myself for not visiting the library this week! BUT, they called this morning to tell me a book I requested has arrived. I would be rude not to go in and pick it up immediately, right? Can I go in and get the book without bringing home others?
well if you're going to be out of control at least it's a habit that won't kill you :)
ReplyDeleteHi Staci,
ReplyDeleteWheeeeee! Thanks so much for including my book, "Cherries in Winter" in your big bag of library loot! I'm in some excellent company, and I'm grateful for you taking the time to read my family's stories. Maybe you'll like some of Nana's recipes, too :)
I really hope you like the book, and I'd love to hear what you and your visitors think about it. Feel free to email me at info@cherriesinwinter.com, and thanks so much for posting my little book on your great site!
All the best,
Suzan Colon
(Author of "Cherries in Winter")
Wow, and I thought I read a lot. 39 books so far this year is crazy! I've read 12 haha.
ReplyDeleteHave fun reading these! You are a machine. ;P
Yes - you are out of control :)
ReplyDeleteWell your LL's have had fewer books. I knew you were saving up for later ;)
ReplyDeleteOMG- yup, you are outta control girl! That's a whole wack of books and this time I'm not going to go check out the ones I think sound good or I'll end up with a whole pile more I don't need. lol.
ReplyDeleteA Bride Most Begrudging, that title just makes me snicker. I bet that is how I will feel when it comes down to it!
ReplyDeleteHey Staci, I thought I was getting outta hand, but you've got me beat there, girl!
ReplyDeleteI've been looking for the winter cherries book, but no sign of it yet at our library.
I'm still enjoying the Ladies Detective Agency series.... the more I read them, the funnier they seem, in their gentle way.
Although I've never read (not that I recall) any Janette Oke novels, I am proud to call her a fellow Albertan. I don't know if she still lives here, but she does hail from my part of the world. It's lovely to think of 'local' people as famous for their books.
Anyway... enjoy your loot!

Margot's to blame for me putting that one on my list as well.
ReplyDeleteI just finished Cherries in Winter and posted my review last night. I found it to be a "hopeful" or "hope filled" book--so worth reading.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your books and happy reading!
*Smiles*
39 books this year? Dang, I need to get off this computer and get reading!
ReplyDeleteOkay, Courting Trouble looks so fun! I need to look that one up.
ReplyDeleteI read some of those Janette Oke books years ago, and I remember really liking them. I had no idea they had been made into movies! I should revisit the books at some point.
Quite a few of these look like they'll be very good. I hope you enjoy them, Staci!
ReplyDeleteI loved, loved, loved the Love Comes Softly series! I've read several other series/books by Oke, but never liked them as much as LCS. I don't know if I would enjoy them as much now, but they were perfect when I did. I remember waiting and waiting for the next book to be published! I loved those people (yes, I know they were characters) and really missed them when the series ended.
ReplyDeleteI think that the Love Comes Softly books are so much better than the movies.
ReplyDeleteI've never read an Oke book and they sound like gentle reads.
ReplyDeleteYou're amazing lady with how quickly you read these library books! I hope that you enjoy Cherries in Winter.
I've enjoyed the Oke books and movies too. There is just something so sweet about them. It might be the time period. Thanks for giving me the blame on the Britten book. I really hope you enjoy it.
ReplyDeletelol OMG! Somenody doe sneed to stop you! You crack me up.
ReplyDeleteI am also anal and must read the series from the beginning...usually. Depends on the book sometimes too.
Enjoy your booty :)
