This is my first review for the Book Review Book Club and I've chosen a non-fiction book to highlight today. I always browse the non-fiction section at my local library in chance that I may stumble upon a cookbook that will make me a hit at home. I'm still looking for that, but in the meantime I happened upon this little gem:
by Lexie Barnes
This book has inspired to me get out my sewing machine, which hasn't seen the light of day in many many years. I really liked the way the author organized the book with the beginning chapters introducing the newbie to the tools, lingo, and tips of the trade. I've been wanting a messenger bag for a long time. But frankly some of the prices that they charge for retail makes my hair curl!! Now, with the instructions that are given I feel like I can actually make one that will fit me perfectly. There are different levels of sewing in this book: newbie, pro, and dare-devil......can you guess which one I am??? I will be making my first bag out of muslin so that I don't waste any beautiful material my first go-round. If you're feeling crafty and like the idea of roaming the aisles looking at beautiful fabric, then I say pick-up this book because you might find a bag that is just right for you!!!
That's great ... hope you're planning to show us the results, too! I love to sew, but haven't had my machine out in several months.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! Kind of a softer, gentler beach bag - but in a good way, lol. Can't wait to see your finished product, Staci!
ReplyDeleteu mean I haven't inspired U to get out that machine yet??? LOL LOL LOL LOL!!!!!! Can not wait to see the bag U create! :):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):)
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed that you have a sewing machine! I've never been the crafty type, but sometimes I wish I were...
ReplyDeleteI've never been into sewing, although my mom is a wonderful seamstress. However, I love bags. Maybe if these are simple enough I could manage one myself.
ReplyDeleteI always hit the new non-fiction area at the library too!
nice review--and I can't wait to see how your first bag turns out! I'm glad you joined Barries Book Review Club :)
ReplyDeleteI'm very jealous that you can sew well enough to own a sewing machine. Sewing is something I always wanted to be able to do!
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the book review club! I look forward to reading/seeing how your first bag turns out.
ReplyDeleteThis book appeals to me too. I love to sew that, at one time I was obsessed with it. I've cut back but a personally made bag sounds like a nice project. Let us know how it goes.
ReplyDeleteWe want to see your finished product!
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to hearing about your experience with the bag and seeing pictures!
ReplyDeleteA good idea, making your own bags. I might start with some cushions.
ReplyDeleteThese bags actually look cool. I've never sewn though...
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great book for me. Can't wait to see what you make!
ReplyDeleteBags of any kind are another of my addictions. I have more bags than even I know what to do with. I just wish I could sew in any way, shape or form and I'd be on this book. Hope we get to see what you make.
ReplyDeleteOh... how I wish I could sew! I am not the craftiest person on the block, but I wish I could sew. I see so many cool things I would love to do one day!
ReplyDeleteCan you tell me, do sewing machines seize up when they havent seen the light of day in over 10 years? LMAO. I'd be scared to get mine out but I'll see if you inspire me. Sounds like a great book and I really want to see the finised product. Good Luck :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm like you - I haven't touched my machine in years. But I do like to sew (but not very good at it)! This sounds like a great book, I'm going to check if my library has it.
ReplyDeleteHope I get to see your creation. I bet it turns out great. Sounds like a great book for crafty people.
ReplyDeleteI need a new tote bag. I should try making one. I have a sewing machine somewhere buried around here! Can't wait to see your bag!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see a pic of the finished project! I've always wanted a sewing machine, but I'd need some sewing lessons, too.

ReplyDeleteI would definitely be a newbie too! So, please, please, please post some pics. Then I'll know what I might be capable of. ;) Thank you so much for joining us!
ReplyDeleteI tossed my sewing machine away a few years back. Too bad. I was expecting to see a Patrick Swayze review here. What a change in plans.
