Review: Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris
Dead Until Dark
by: Charlaine Harris
Genre: Paranormal/Fantasy
Published: 2001 Ace Fantasy
Pages: 292
From Goodreads:
Sookie Stackhouse is a cocktail waitress in small-town Louisiana, but she keeps to herself and doesn't date much because of her "disability" to read minds. When she meets Bill, Sookie can't hear a word he's thinking. He's the type of guy she's waited for all of her life, but he has a disability, too--he's a vampire with a bad reputation. When one of Sookie's coworkers is killed, she fears she's next.
My Thoughts:
I said this review would be short and I meant it!! Sookie is a character that I immediately was drawn to...she's smart, vulnerable and believable. That in combination with Harris' amazing ability to create a story that you can leap into with both feet, helps make this book a winner. I totally recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a vampire story that doesn't disappoint and is just pure fun!

ReplyDeleteI've always wanted to read a vampire novel, one that wouldn't make me cringe with descriptions of blood, etc. Maybe this is the one?
ReplyDeleteYou need to make them short too sometimes :)
ReplyDeleteAnd you said all that you needed to say, good book
I hope to read this one soon since I'm doing the Sookie challenge too.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love the Sookie books -- they definitely are pure fun!
ReplyDeleteThe whole series is really good fun, though the fact it gets put in with much darker stuff by Laurell K. Hamilton or Kelly Armstrong is always weird.
ReplyDeleteThis is one of my favorite series. I am glad you liked this one!
ReplyDeleteOh man, you've already read one for the challenge. You go girl!
ReplyDeleteYou know, I've been thinking about doing some of reviews this way too. Especially with cozy mysteries. I'd hate to give anything away beyond what's on the book cover!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear that you liked this book! I just ordered it and was considering joining the challenge. These kind of books are perfect for summer reading.
ReplyDeleteI'll be reading this soon, too. Glad to see you enjoyed it! :)
ReplyDeleteI've read this one myself but it has been such a long time ago that I have been thinking about rereading it. I have the next two books sitting on my shelf waiting for me to pick up but I just haven't yet. Great review!
ReplyDeleteI keep reading wonderful things about this series. Dare I start another one?
ReplyDeleteI don't generally read vampire books, but this series really has me curious. I've been kicking around the idea of trying this first book and from what you've described, I think it might be the one to get me into a genre I don't typically venture into. Thanks for encouraging me! :)
ReplyDeleteI am normally not into vampire fiction, but this sounds different - and fun!
ReplyDeleteJulie- You must read this one!!
ReplyDeleteStacy- Yes, start another series!!!
I haven't read a Sookie book in a long time - I miss them! Out of curiosity do you like Sookie & Bill as a couple?
ReplyDeleteTold ya they were fun, now get cracking on the others LOL
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to dive into this series for the challenge
