Review: Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris

Dead Until Dark
by: Charlaine Harris
Genre: Paranormal/Fantasy
Published: 2001 Ace Fantasy
Pages: 292

From Goodreads:
Sookie Stackhouse is a cocktail waitress in small-town Louisiana, but she keeps to herself and doesn't date much because of her "disability" to read minds. When she meets Bill, Sookie can't hear a word he's thinking. He's the type of guy she's waited for all of her life, but he has a disability, too--he's a vampire with a bad reputation. When one of Sookie's coworkers is killed, she fears she's next.

My Thoughts:

I said this review would be short and I meant it!! Sookie is a character that I immediately was drawn to...she's smart, vulnerable and believable. That in combination with Harris' amazing ability to create a story that you can leap into with both feet, helps make this book a winner. I totally recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a vampire story that doesn't disappoint and is just pure fun!

  2. I've always wanted to read a vampire novel, one that wouldn't make me cringe with descriptions of blood, etc. Maybe this is the one?

  6. The whole series is really good fun, though the fact it gets put in with much darker stuff by Laurell K. Hamilton or Kelly Armstrong is always weird.

  14. I don't generally read vampire books, but this series really has me curious. I've been kicking around the idea of trying this first book and from what you've described, I think it might be the one to get me into a genre I don't typically venture into. Thanks for encouraging me! :)
