Divergent- Six Sentence Bookish Thoughts #83
What Divergent is about:
In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago world, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue--Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is--she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.
Divergent, Divergent, Divergent! I couldn't escape this title and all of my book friends who read it loved it, recommending it left and right. I didn't want to get caught up in the hype, so I put off reading it for over a year! Let it show for the record that it LIVED up to all of the HYPE and then some! This book was fascinating and I loved, absolutely loved, the world and the characters that Roth created. Tris and Four have captured my heart and had me rooting for them throughout the entire story.
Recommend? READ IT!! Roth included a playlist for Divergent in the back of the book. Do yourself a favor and listen to it BEFORE you read it, because it certainly helps set the tone of the whole story. I could feel the emotion, the darkness, and the hope in those songs. I already have Insurgent on hold from my library to be the first book I read in April!!!

LOL!! Kinda how I felt with the Twilight, HP and Hunger Games??? I took longer than anyone to read those!! LOL!! Ohhhhhhhhh and the 50 shades group too! LOL!!! I am such a book loser :)
ReplyDeleteI loved this book, as you know! Unfortunately, the second, Insurgent, didn't live up to the first for me, but no matter - I'll be back for the third: Detergent. (maybe a different title...)
ReplyDeleteEveryone seems to love this book but I'm a little leery - I just don't think it's for me. Maybe I'll try it one of these days.
ReplyDeleteI liked the first book but had to return book 2 since someone had a hold on it. I know the movie is coming... forget who's in it though.
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear this lived up to the hype!
ReplyDeleteIt was ok, nothing impressive though
ReplyDeleteWoohoo so glad you loved it as much as I did. Hope Insurgent does it for you too. It did me, I loved getting more on the factions and the whole neuropsych angle pushed all the right buttons. Bring on book 3 ... *sigh* Sept is still a while away!!
ReplyDeleteThe Girl really wants to read this one, so I'll have to tell her you loved it!
ReplyDeleteGlad it was well worth the wait for you! I anxiously await the third book.
ReplyDeleteOkay, when you love something that's out of your usual comfort zone, I know I'm going to have to cave in to the hype, too!
ReplyDeleteI tend to wait until the hype dies down to read a book too. At least that's what I tell myself. In reality I have a 2 year old who needs constant attention and I am extremely lucky to read a book a week.
ReplyDeleteGlad this was a win for you :)
Staci, I really enjoyed this book! It was on my top 10 for last year. I liked it better than Hunger Games. I really liked the set-up, how each character has to make their own choice of where they belong - that's so hard to do anyway, especially at age 16, and then to know that's where you'll spend your life. I wasn't sure about the ending,in that so many die, but I have been waiting for Insurgent to come out in softcover, very anxiously. Love your review, and so delighted you enjoyed it too :-)
ReplyDeletehmmmm . . . I've been putting off reading it too. I guess I'll have to get to it.
ReplyDeleteOkay, fine! I'll read it.
ReplyDeleteOh Yea! So glad it lived up to the hype and you loved it :)
ReplyDeleteI have this on my TBR list, but I don't think I have it in any form. Time to check the library. :)
ReplyDeleteYay, yay, yay! I loved this book and have been meaning to read Insurgent every since! The best part is I gave my copy to my sister and got her hooked as well :) I'm so glad to hear that you enjoyed it as much as we did!!!!!
