Friday Fitness Update

Hello Friends!

I realized that it's been over a month since I've updated my Fitness goals and to fill you in on how I am doing!  It's slow going but I have lost 6 pounds since I last posted. For those of you that are following my journey you might remember that I wrote about my husband's diabetes diagnosis and that this is a joint undertaking back to healthy living for both of us.  I'm really happy to be able to say that my husband has lost quite a bit of weight and his sugar numbers are getting better every day.  There is no magic pill for weight loss and it honestly just takes time, dedication, and educating yourself about food!!

Here's what we've been doing the past month:

  • Less dining out!! And when we do we have been splitting one meal!! Yay for us!!
  • No junk in the house! That wasn't too hard to do as I never really bought a lot of junk. My husband's biggest problem was not eating all day and then coming home, eating dinner and then really never stopping eating until he was ready for bed.
  • Small meals every 3-4 hours.
  • Snacks!! Fruit, nuts, cheese sticks, lean turkey or ham slices, and yogurt!
  • Water
  • No more dinner plates, using smaller plates for our meals.
And what I consider the biggest factor
  • EXERCISE- we've been riding our bikes, swimming, and walking!
**** If you're on a personal journey back to a healthy way of living, please leave me a comment and tell me how it's going for you and what the biggest factor has been for success!!

  2. It sounds like you guys are doing a great job at living a healthier lifestyle. My hubby and I have been trying to eat healthier, too. Of course, he's lost a lot more weight than I have! What is it with men? I swear they have some kind of magical weight loss tactic that they employ just to annoy their struggling wives, LOL!

  5. It sounds like y'all are rocking it. I, too, have found that we don't eat junk if I don't buy it.

  6. I find it easier to eat smaller meals, but I also have to cut out certain junk food. I just love chocolate chip cookies...I can't help myself...and don't get me started about oreos. I need more time for exercise, but with a toddler, she's the one getting me to run around, but not much time for anything else.

  7. This reminds me to grab a handful of almonds for a morning snack, after that glass of soy milk!

    Have fun with the diet!

  8. Sounds like you're using common sense - I love that you split a meal and use smaller plates. Great ideas! Congrats to you and your hubby. It helps to have support, doesn't it?

  9. **Clapping** for both of you. Way to go. It is slow going for me too, but at least it is going in the right direction. I was able to finally walk outside yesterday with the break in the heat! My poor workout audiobook has been neglected. Wish I would listen when I workout in the pool! Someone invent a waterproof iPod please!

  10. You've got the right idea. I eat well and I exercise but the weight stays the same. I maybe lose and then re-gain 5 lbs every month. My body likes being chubby I guess. You'd think that after 8 months of going to the gym and busting my butt, that SOMETHING would fall off of me.

  13. You are both doing so good, I commend you. Splitting a meal makes sense. Most the time we go out, we end up bringing home half our meals anyway. I bet your hubby feels so much better now that he has his sugar better.

  14. Yea! woo-hoo! Keep up the good work.
I slid backwards a bit but now my whole office is going to WW so I have a bunch of people to chat with about healthy stuff. That really helps me for some reason :)

  15. Congrats! You're doing great. I really need to get motivated, but my work/commuting schedule makes it difficult. I've done better getting the junk out of my house, but I'm a gal that gets cravings...

  16. Awesome! Congrats to your husband on his good sugar numbers.
I have not been doing very well. I finally started writing down how much I want to lose by my birthday in Oct and tape it to the frig. I'm thinking I may have to tape a current fat picture and a pic of what I want to look like on there too :)

  17. You are doing great! Glad your hubby's sugar levels are coming down. Mike still has quite a bit of weight to lose but we need to up the exercise again. We're hoping his cholesterol will come down then too. Love the tips on smaller plate and sharing a meal for dinners out ... we do like to eat out. Keep it up Staci!

  18. Amazing how something so seemingly insignificant as plate size can matter but it sure does. When I (rarely) go to restaurants, I am astounded at the size of the plates and hence the portions. For my suppers, I usually use a bowl.

  19. Way to go! My husband and I need to get back on track with our healthy eating and exercise. You'd think it'd be easier in the summer, but there's a lot of ice cream and beer consumed when it's hot. And it's really hot here. Too hot to get out and walk or bike. Thanks for the motivation. No more excuses!
