First Chapter First Paragraph Tuesday Intros

Every Tuesday, Diane @ Bibliophile by the Sea
posts the opening paragraph (maybe two) of a book
she decided to read based on the opening paragraph (s).
Feel free to grab the banner and play along!

My selection this week is from Rush Home Road, a book that comes highly recommended from my dear friend Kaye @ Pudgy Penguin.

It stinks of piss in the room. Sharla Cody breathes it in, thinking it's a sweet stink. Reminds her of the little white flowers Mum Addy planted instead of grass on the square out front of her trailer. They keep coming up, those little flowers, year after year. Sharla likes the notion of seeing them each spring, like an expected but unreliable guest.

Would you continue reading this one
 based on the opening paragraph?

  1. Kind of a strange intro -- wow--but I would read on as I LOVE this author, and actually have this one on my shelves -- enjoy Staci

  9. It's a catchy first paragraph. I can't imagine being reminded of flowers when I smell urine, but I tend to think of cat urine when I think of a urine smell and that's pretty gross. LOL

  10. I do like the paragraph--not so sure about the smell :)

  12. When I first opened this book (several years ago), I was somewhat put off that the word "piss" was in the first line. I'm not a prude, but it's one of those words that gives me pause. But I continued to read the book and ended up liking it a great deal. In fact, it's now on my "keeper" shelf.

  13. I wouldn't. Not a bit appealing, particularly with the use of 'piss.' Not for me, but am glad others like it.

  14. LOL with Nan (above). I don't like that word either. :)

I still haven't read a Lansens book. I have a couple on my TBR shelves and actually sampled one once, but didn't feel like reading it then. Hopefully one of these days I'll get to one.
