"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event,
hosted at Breaking the Spine,
that spotlights upcoming releases
that we're eagerly anticipating.
This week's pre-publication "can't-wait-to-read" selection is:
by John Green
Published date Jan 10, 2012 by Penguin Group
The book focuses on a girl named Hazel who is suffering
from terminal cancer and is forced by her parents to attend a support group.
I love John Green and so does my son Marc! You can be sure that we both will be reading this one! Here's what little I could find out about the book on Wiki.
The Fault in Our Stars is the upcoming fourth solo novel by author John Green that rose to #1 on the Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble bestseller lists in June 2011 shortly after its title was announced.[1]
The book's title was revealed in a post on Green's Tumblr blog on June 28, 2011. In the post, Green stated, "The title is inspired by a famous line from Shakespeare's play, Julius Caesar. The nobleman Cassius says to Brutus, 'The fault, dear Brutus is not in our stars, / But in ourselves, that we are underlings.'" This was also stated on his YouTube vlog.
The book shot to number 1 on the Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble bestseller lists, even though an official release date and cover had not yet been released. Green also promised that every copy of the first printing will be hand-signed by him. He proposed that the general public vote on the colorSharpie he will use to sign the book. The voting resulted in him signing the books with a variety of Sharpie colors, each in proportion to the amount of votes received for that color. He has also been allowing fans to submit their book cover designs.[2]

What book are you anxiously waiting to be released?
I like this author as well Staci, but not sure I could read another book about someone with cancer:( hope its good.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter will be thrilled to hear this--I haven't read John Green, but he is one of her favorite authors.
ReplyDeleteLike the Sharpie idea--nice!
I remember writing a history paper in college with a title/theme inspired by the same Shakespeare line, which struck a chord with me when I read JC as a high-school sophomore.
Ohhhhhhhhhh I want to read this!!! :):):):):):):):):):):)
ReplyDeleteI have been hearing a lot about John Green lately. I think that is neat that not only he took a vote for the color sharpie to sign the books, but he signed with all the colors proportionate to the votes received. That is different and fun rather than just sign them all in the winning color.

Very enthusiastic, Staci! So, since I haven't read this author, where would I start?
ReplyDeleteThat's cool about fans can submit cover design. Should be better than some of the publisher's fiascos. I quoted you in my post today. Hope you don't mind!
ReplyDeleteI have one of John Green's books on my night table waiting for me to read. My daughter's also a fan. Good to know this is coming out (though it does sound a bit sad).
ReplyDeleteI've never read anything by him but this sure sounds like something I would like.
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid I have to admit ignorance of John Green. I obviously need to be enlightened. Any suggestions of where to start?
ReplyDelete..do not know him. Must google
ReplyDeleteI've got to wait until January! I am looking forward to this book.
ReplyDeleteI think this is a best seller already. I hope you don't have to wait too long for it.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read any of his books . . . yet!
ReplyDeleteI'll watch to see what you and March think about this one.
ReplyDeleteOn the one hand I am really excited about this, but on the other hand I am bit hesitant... I have been finding myself avoiding cancer as a topic in books lately.
ReplyDeletei still haven't read any of his books! i follow you here! :) stop by my blog and let me know what you think of my pick? There's also a giveaway on my author group's blog for some signed books!

That is so cool that he is going to sign every copy of the first printing and that he is letting the public vote on the sharpie color!
