'Awaken the Highland Warrior' by Anita Clenney

Awake the Highland Warrior by Anita Clenney

Mis-adventurous historian Bree Kirkland discovers a one hundred fifty year old warrior buried in a crypt behind her house. But Faelan, the warrior, isn’t dead. When this chauvinistic Scottish Warrior awakes, he has no choice but accept the help of this modern-day woman who’s rescued him, but she’s more fearsome than the demon trying to kill him. If he’s not careful, she’ll uncover every secret his clan has bled and died to protect.

My thoughts:
Well, I have to be honest and tell you that I thought this one was just going to be a big cheesy sex fest. Instead, I need to admit to my readers that I actually enjoyed it. It was fun, fast paced, had some great action, and the storyline was one that kept me engaged. I liked the two main characters and the author made me want to get back to the story so that I could figure out what was going to happen next!! I'm open to reading a lot of different genres and this was a fun one to add to my mix for the month.

Recommend? If you're a fan of the paranormal romance suspense then you will enjoy this one. I'm actually looking forward to the next installment, Embrace the Highland Warrior, scheduled to be released by Sourcebooks Casablanca in November of this year. Now, if I could just find a way to make one of these hunky men show up on my doorstep........

  1. The synopsis does sound cheesy...but I am glad it wasn't! And heheheheheheh...when you figure out to get those men at your door...send them my way too! LOL! :):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):)

  3. I actually liked the idea of a modern women helping out an ancient (albeit well preserved) Highlander. Like you I could go for finding such a hunk lying around waiting for me to uncover him (unintended pun).

  5. I actually like Highland romances, (cheesy sex scenes optional but okay with me! ha!) (Karen Marie Moning's series is good poolside reading.) My husband just rolls his eyes when he sees me with book covers like this one -- LOL! I'll keep my eye out for this one. Thanks for the rec. ;)

  9. The cover does give the impression that most of the action will take place in the bedroom. I am glad you enjoyed it.

    Hi Staci,

I’m so glad you reviewed Awaken the Highland Warrior. I love getting a pleasant surprise when reading, so I’m glad the book turned out to have more depth for you. J I don’t know what’s up with publishers and these naked chest covers. They’re everywhere. It’s an invasion. LOL.

I noticed the link on the sidebar of your blog says “Awaken the Highlander” instead of “Awaken the Highland Warrior.” Probably no big deal, but if it could be corrected that would be awesome.

Thanks again for the review and the entertaining comments. Have a wonderful day!

  23. From Bookfan Mary:
Staci, I tried a few times but kept getting an error message from blogger so here's my comment:

Drat! My first comment gave me some error message when I clicked publish.
I think it says a lot that you're looking forward to the next book in the series. I'm curious how you'd explain "one of these hunky men" showing up on your doorstep, lol.

  25. Oh, I was wondering why you commented on your post so many times. I don't think mine go to my e-mail. I will have to see how to do that! Great review and I love the cover of this book!

  26. I would have thought this would be a cheesy book, too. Just goes to show you that trying books you normally wouldn't think about twice can lead to some pleasant surprises.

  27. What a cover. Love paranormal romances so adding to my nook wishlist. Already went over my budget this month.
