Vlog Movie Review: Where the Wild Things Are

I told Debi that I would consider doing a vlog and lo, behold.....I was able to talk my son into doing this!! Please disregard all of my goofy facial expressions. We had no idea what we were doing as you will be able to tell while watching this. Actually, we had a blast!! We've decided that we're going to do our movie reviews this way!!

This movie review was brought to you by Marc and Mom's Cinematic Adventure.

  3. I agree, this is hilarious! My favorite line was "I told you to turn off the tv!"

I agree with your review of the movie. I thought it was kind of slow in parts too, but of course I also cried at the end, because I cry at everything! :--)

  7. How cool is this? Very! :)

Only problem is, now I'm just a teeney bit apprehensive about going to this movie tomorrow night. It's my 9-y.o.'s b-day and the whole family has been looking forward to this for weeks! I think she can handle it but if another movie makes us cry my husband is gonna freak! He is still stewing over seeing Marley and Me last Christmas ... What to do, what to do *bites fingernails*?

  10. So funny! You're the second blogger saying this movie will be heartbreaking for 9 year olds and below. My sons are 6 and 8 (and want to watch it). I guess I'll have to tell them to wait until they're in high school. Thanks!

  11. Oh my God, you two were hilarious! That was fantastic! LOL to Mark's comment. That completely cracked me up. It was great seeing you. I really need to put one of these together one of these days but I look so extra goofy on film.

  13. Loved it! I was listening to 3rd graders talking about watching slasher/horror movies today. Apparently one kids parents let him watch that kind of thing! The movies the kids was talking about were way beyond Where The Wild Things Are and these kids are only about 8 years old!

  14. Love this new feature. I'd give the movie a 2.5 to. It was an adult version of the story and it was scary. I didn't like how Max was out of control and his family was so dysfunctional. In the book he just has a temper tantrum and is sent to his room, pretty normal kid/parent behaviour. But this movie bordered on the psychotic. Why do they always portray single mom's as weak and unable and potential father figures as creeps? Can't Hollywood come up with something better when they know kids are going to want to see it? I was very dissappointed in the story. But I did love the characters, the cinemetography, the costuming, the set and the soundtrack.

  16. LMAO that was totally awesome. I nearly peed my pants when Marc suggested desensitising with a week of R rated movies, hilarious!
I'm showing this to my 15 year old son to see if he'll do one with me because I'm a moron when it comes to technical stuff like that.

I loved, loved, loved this book as a kid and we saw the shorts for it when we went to see Mao's Last Dancer. Don't know when it's out in Australia but I so want to see it.

  17. Staci, I forgot to say it was great to put a face to the name after all this time, LOL.

    Love your header too!

  18. This was just too, too funny! I watched it three times and made my husband watch it too. I love your son. Can we adopt him? (Only as grandparents. Not going through those years again on a daily basis.)

Do it again with more movies. Seriously, I didn't know it wasn't for younger children. Our four-year-old granddaughter loves the book but, thanks to you and Marc, we will not take her to see the movie.

  19. You and Mark did such a good job. It was so cute. You will have to make that a regular feature on your blog!

  20. First off, you guys were awesome! Great job and I like your insights into the movie. Sorry Staci but your son was cracking me up. I know some 9 year olds that are pretty desensitized.
Aw this was a great idea you two!

  21. I think you two have a new gig! I had never heard of these books so it's news to me that they are so popular.

  22. OOOOOOH STACI!!!! This was so beyond awesome!!!! I'm so glad you e-mailed me, because I've been avoiding blog reading this week, trying to get a bazillion and a half things done. But I NEEDED to see this!!! You just TOTALLY MADE MY DAY!!!! You guys absolutely MUST do more of these!!! As in, LOTS more!!!!
(BTW, I really can't wait to see this movie!)

  23. Great job Staci!! It was so fun to see you and Marc on video! What a team you are and so natural
.... I loved it! My son wants to see this movie as he loved the book. It does sound a bit creepy though. You should definitely do this as a regular feature.

  25. Several people (including you two) have now told me not to take my 9 year old. So, I'm not taking her. :)

  26. What a nice surprise to find after a few days away from my reader! LOVED it :D

  27. Update: My girls (19 & 9) and I loved the movie; thought it was beautiful in the way it paralleled Max's own feelings about his wild nature and emotions. It's my guess that most 9-y.olds can name at least one friend or classmate with behavioural problems like Max (like the boy from my daughter's class who has a huge crush on her!) and so won't be shocked by what they see in Where the Wild Things Are. My 15-y.o son liked it too but my husband, well, he said HE is picking the next movie. :P

Looking forward to the next installment of Marc and Mom's Cinematic Adventure!

  28. 2.8 - haha Marc! Maybe next time Staci you'll have learned how to "turn this thing off" - can I assume you didn't edit that out because you haven't figured out how yet? I loved your review - keep it real ;0)
