Mailbox Monday
is a gathering place for readers to share the books that
came into their house last week and explore great book blogs.
Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists.
January Host: A favorite blogger of mine-
I have a bad habit of checking out the Friend of the Library sale cart whenever I stop by my local library. It never fails that I bring home something with me. I think I hit pay dirt when I stopped on Thursday to return books. My husband just smiled as I asked for a couple of bucks just in case I found something I wanted!!
- Deep in the Valley- I'm aware of this author thanks to Kaye and Mary!
- Clouds of Witness- reading Jane's blog (Fleur Fisher Reads) has made me keen on reading Sayers. Thanks, Jane!
- The Widower- this one just caught my eye. Checked it out on Goodreads and it sounds like it could be promising.
- Casting Off- brand new paperback for .50 cents!! How could I go wrong? Plus, this one has been on my TBR list for a while. I love books about knitting even though I have no clue how to knit myself and added bonus the setting is Ireland!
----------------------------------------------
We discuss the books that we've read
and what we're planning to read for the week.
Read and reviewed last week:
All the Flowers in Shanghai- not what I was hoping for.
Carrie Goes Off the Map- fun and easy to enjoy!
The Mercy (Book 3 in an Amish trilogy)- satisfying!
The Night Circus- the ending made me mad beyond belief and really messed up my overall enjoyment of the story.
Sizzling Sixteen (Stephanie Plum)-thank God for Lula, Grandma, and the hot Ranger, otherwise I would be done with this series!
Bookish Thoughts on tap for this week:
Books Can Be Deceiving- Wednesday (Book Club)
The Lost Wife-Thursday
Books just waiting for me:
The Night Sky- a memoir of sorts that I'm excited to read
A.B.C. Murders- book from my own shelf (can you believe it?)
The Arrivals- library book that I checked out because of fellow bloggers loving it!
These look good... interested in knowing what "The Widower" is about! Happy New Year! :):):):):):):):):):):)
ReplyDeleteI am also irrational when I choose books. Sometimes just because I like the covers!
ReplyDeleteI want to read Dorothy L Sayers more. She has been on my list of things to do, I just need to do it.
ReplyDeleteI read DOWN IN THE VALLEY recently. Love Robyn Carr's books. And I also loved THE ARRIVALS. Enjoy them all, Staci!
ReplyDeleteI keep planning to read something by Robyn Carr, but have nothing on my stacks. Perhaps the library....
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your reads! I haven't read a Stephanie Plum since Finger Lickin' Fifteen; and before that, I only read Eleven. I don't know if I'll read any others...I do enjoy some of the characters.
Here's MY MONDAY MEMES POST and
MY WEBSITE
I have heard good things about Carr so good choice :=D
ReplyDeleteI've only read one in this Carr series but I love the Virgin River series (which should be read in order). I'll watch for your thoughts on DITV. I think I have Casting Off somewhere. I'll have to look for it because I know I didn't read it. Have a great week, Staci.
ReplyDeleteWho knew going to the library could be so dangerous to your TBR pile? My library doesn't have a cart like that. Enjoy your new books!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the cover of the Arrivals whenever I see it. I hope it is as good as it looks --enjoy your new books.
ReplyDeleteThe Widower caught my eye.

Those all look good! I have similar weaknesses with the library sale cart. :)
ReplyDeleteAren't Friends of the Library sales great! I belong to our group. i will check out the Widower and Casting off. I love Ireland as a setting also!
ReplyDeleteI thought I was done with the Stephanie Plum series, but since you found a reason to go on, I think I'll read the 16th. I had stopped at 13!
ReplyDeleteI hope The Widower is as good as the cover. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteA lot of good looking books!
ReplyDeleteWe have monthly Friends of the Library sales which I have trouble resisting. A cart that was there all the time would be a real problem!
ReplyDeleteI love our Friends of the Library sale shelves. It is a hit or miss thing though. You did well. I read the first book in Carr's Virgin River series. She can tell a good small town story. Casting Off Looks interesting too. I am a horrible knitter but I still love to read about knitters and just pretend I can knit along with them.
ReplyDeleteYou picked up some good books at the library. Sayers has been on my wishlist for too long, I've got to get some of her books!
ReplyDeleteI have yet to read All the Flowers in Shanghai but I'm reviewing it later in the month and I'm curious to see what I think of the book since it seems to be disappointing a lot of readers.
Enjoy your books!
I've been wanting to read Sayers, too. Enjoy all those books!
ReplyDeleteThe Widower for some reason intrigues me. I guess I imagine a dark brooding, but sensitive hero.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year Staci!
PS I can't tell you how often I have thought of the Edith Wharton quote that you posted after the loss of your dear dog. Although my labrador retrievers are not little they do love to lay at my feet.
take care,
Kim
The Friends of the library book sales and carts are a great fundraiser for the libraries. Our local library started a cart for friends of the library as well and I find lots of books I donated on there:) I have to stay away or I will never clear my own shelves..it's so tempting! I have Casting Off on my TBR shelf. I enjoy knitting books as well.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you got some interesting reads...happy 2012
ReplyDeleteYou've got some wonderful reading there! I've been thinking of reading some Dorothy Sayers lately, too -- Clouds of Witness is one of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year, and happy reading in 2012!
I LOVE library sales. Our library has two bookshelves as you walk-in with books for sale and I can never resist taking a peek (a very quick one if Gage is with me) and usually walk out with something. They know what they're doing putting the books there where they can't be ignored!
ReplyDeleteYou had some great reads! I must see your review of The Night Circus!
ReplyDeleteI've never read anything by Robyn Car but one of her books was loaded on to my eread from Kobo.
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoy all your books!
Gotta love libraries!
ReplyDeleteWishing you a great reading week!

Lol I would have bought Casting Off too & what a bonus being set in Ireland! I have to catch up on your reviews, especially Night Circus ... eek!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week & happy reading, you're off to a good start :)
Yay! You're going to read The Arrivals! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
ReplyDeleteI'm almost finished with The Night Circus. So far, I've loved the book. Now I'm dreading the ending. :(
You struck gold at the library sale!!! Robyn Carr and a Casting off - wow! Pennies well spent. I haven't read that Robyn Carr yet so I'll be looking for your thoughts. Enjoy your new books!
ReplyDeleteI like every one of the books you picked up at your library sale. Hope they live up to their expectations. Also, I read the A.B.C. Murders this past year and it was a different type of mystery for Christie. Still good. Hope you like it.
ReplyDeleteYou got a great bunch of books. Library sales are hard to resist that's for sure!
ReplyDeleteThese all look good. I can never walk away without finding at least a few books I'll want. Lol.
