Review: 'The One That I Want 'by Allison Winn Scotch

Author: Allison Winn Scothc
Pages: 270
Genre: Smart Fiction for Women
Source: TLC Book Tours
Synopsis from TLC:

“I’m giving you the gift of clarity,” her friend says, “It’s what I always thought you needed.” That night Tilly has a terrifying dream that her alcoholic father has relapsed, and when she wakes up to learn that he crashed his car into a tree after a night at the bar she can’t help but think she saw it coming. Soon enough Tilly starts seeing more visions: her husband Tyler uprooting their quiet life, a packed U-Haul in their driveway, leaving for a job in Seattle. And even more disturbing, these visions start coming true. What would you do if you could take a glimpse into your future and how would you react if it wasn’t quite what you expected? What if the life you were living isn’t the one you were meant to? In THE ONE THAT I WANT Allison Winn Scotch allows us to consider that fundamental question…what if?

My Thoughts:
This is my first experience with Allison Winn Scotch, but it won't be my last. I love her writing and absolutely fell in love with this book. Tilly is a character that I could totally relate to, she like myself is the oldest. We're the ones that keep it together. The ones that get excellent grades, play sports, and still find time to hold down a job. And we're the ones that shoulder the responsibility even though no one asked us to. When Tilly's world falls apart after the death of her beloved mother, she is the glue that keeps her family together. Or so she thought. Until one day she stumbles upon an old friend who reads her future for her. But Ashley (the old friend) doesn't read Tilly's future, but instead gives her the gift of seeing into the future. The best part of this story is that when Tilly gets a vision, they all don't play out like she assumes. Tilly wants everything to be perfect and for everyone to be happy. What she doesn't realize is that she's so scared of anything changing that she is stuck in her life, stuck in her career, and stuck in her family. If you want to know how everything pans out for Tilly, then I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you pick up this book. You won't be disappointed and hopefully, like me, you will see a little bit of yourself in Tilly as she navigates this crazy thing called life.

  1. sounds really good--it's funny how the oldest one does tend to be the glue. My oldest daughter is always telling her siblings they owe her!
