At the end of each review I will post a
rating scale of 1-5 using the cute and original (lol) Playing Cards.
Rating scale will be as follows:
5 of Hearts- You must read this book NOW!!
4 of Hearts- A great read, put it on your TBR list.
3 of Hearts- Glad I read but no big deal
2 of Hearts- Why did I finish this?
Joker Card - Don't bother (why did I?)
The Missing Ink (Tattoo Shop Mystery #1) Karen Olsen
I want a tattoo, but it has to be done by Brett Kavenaugh who runs an upscale tattoo shop inside one of the huge casinos in Vegas. Life has thrown her some curve balls and she's responded by being true to the artist inside of her hence drawing masterpiece tattoos. What she didn't figure on was being pulled into a murder mystery all because of a woman wanting a dedication tat. I'm a huge fan of cozy mysteries and this one fit the bill. I loved that it took place in the world of tattoo artists, Las Vegas, and with an uber cool main character. Here's how much I enjoyed it....I already picked up number 2 from the library!!!!
My Rating:
Look Again - Lisa Scottoline
The very first page of this one pulled me into the story...Ellen gets a white HAVE YOU SEEN ME card in the mail and the missing boy just like her adopted son, could it be him? Everything that Ellen does after that white card falls threw her mail slot makes sense....up to a point. That is when my joy in this book starts to deteriorate and I begin to feel that the story has now taken a turn for the mundane. I wanted to really love this one because so many of my reading friends have enjoyed it. I did "like" it, but I sure didn't love it and the ending was so anti-climatic that it raised my frustration level a few notches. If you're looking for a fast, entertaining read where at some point through the novel you will have figured EVERYTHING out, even the ending, and don't care that you won't be surprised...then this one may be a great read for you. I'm sure that I will read Scottoline again....just wasn't overly thrilled with this one.
My Rating:
Disclosure: Both of these books were from my local library and I was not compensated for my thoughts!
Staci, I have THE MISSING INK on my TBR pile. I'll get to it this summer maybe.
ReplyDeleteI find Lisa Scottoline kind of hit and miss for me. I keep reading her though. I like her Rosato & Assoc books best.
Bummer about Socttoline !- usually I really like her books. The tattoo cozy sounds good though if you gave it a 4. I think a few people on Goodreads said they liked that one. you should join the cozy group there. Lots of great suggestions.
ReplyDeleteSo many people have raved about Scottoline's work, so I was excited when I had the chance to review one earlier. I felt about like you did - it was just okay.
ReplyDeletei have 4 tat's!!! LOL!!! That book sounds UBER COOL...and I am thinking that 2nd one would be a good read for me!!! thanks for the AWESOME reviews as always! :):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):)
ReplyDeleteI thought Look Again sounded like such an interesting book but I'll have to put it off for now. Too many good books out there to read books that are only 3/5.
ReplyDeleteWho would have thought there is a cozy mystery on tattoos? And Las Vegas sounds like the perfect setting of course!
ReplyDeleteAll of my book blog friends haven't cared for Look Again, so I don't think I'm going to bother reading it. I'm bummed, but at least I didn't pay for my copy (got it from paperbackswap).
ReplyDeleteSorry Look Again was just okay for you. I read one this week that everyone raved about that was so-so for me.
ReplyDeleteSo you want a tatoo? I want pictures! :)
ReplyDeleteThe tat series is on my TBR list!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear that the Scottoline book wasn't as good as you expected. I am drawn to that cover, the little boy reminds me of my son when he was little.
ReplyDeleteI want to read the missing ink. I love mysteries and tattoos, so this sounds great!
ReplyDeleteI love cozy mysteries too and this tatoo one looks fun. I know nothing about tatoos and/or tatoo parlors so this will be my introduction. A sample of how my life experience comes from books. In some cases that's okay.
ReplyDeletethe cozy sounds fun--great job on the reviews.
