Six Sentence Saturday

6 Sentence Saturday Reviews
Welcome to Six Sentence Saturday. Where I try to express my thoughts on recent reads using only 6 sentences!!!!. At the end of each review I will post a rating scale of 1-5 using the cute and original (lol) Playing Cards. Rating scale will be as follows:

5 of Hearts- You must read this book NOW!!
4 of Hearts- A great read, put it on your TBR list.
3 of Hearts- Glad I read but no big deal

2 of Hearts- Why did I finish this?
Joker Card - Don't bother (why did I?)

The Shop On Blossom Street by Debbie Macomber (read June 2009)
Nothing pulls me in like a book that has knitting in it!! I don't know why, because I can't knit to save my life. But I love the stories of the women and how they come together to make something meaningful. At times I knew exactly what was going to happen next, but I didn't mind. This is a comfort book, pure and simple. I'll be back for more!

Olive Kitteridge by Elizabeth Strout (read June 2009)
This is a collection of short stories. The common thread within each story is Olive Kitteridge. At times I found myself very intrigued with her. While at other times, I just did not like her. The stories are very intricate and multi-layered. I'm glad that I read it and Olive is a character that I won't soon forget.

The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith
At first I thought I had made a mistake in reading this one. The beginning is very slow and tedious at times, but then something miraculous happens (Precious starts helping people) and the story takes off. I loved Precious!! There really aren't any great mysteries, but just a single woman who is trying to might things right. She's suffered early in her life, so she takes the pain she feels and puts it into something positive. Her outlook on life is wonderful and I fell in love with the location and with Precious....I will continue on with this series!!!

  8. Short sweet and to the point. :)

I really enjoy Debbie Macomber, and I agree the books are predictable but there's just something about those ladies knitting together.

  10. I agree, Debbie Macomber books are definitely comfort and cozy reads. I love reading books about crafts and women's friendships.

I have Olive Kitteredge TBR and look forward to it.

I love the slow and gentle approach of the The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency series. I've read the first 4 or 5 books and need to read the rest. I find them so relaxing and I crave tea when I read them! The series just gets better, IMO.
